Emmanuel Moreno H.Y.D

Lt. Col. Emmanuel Yehuda Moreno (June 17, 1971; 24 Sivan 5731 – August 19, 2006; 25 Av 5766,) an officer in Sayeret Matcal (the IDF’s General Staff Reconnaissance Unit), was killed in combat towards the end of the Second Lebanon War. Moreno is the first soldier in the history of the IDF whose photo has been banned for publication even after his death, due to the extremely covert missions in which he took part.

Moreno was born in Paris to parents Sylvia and Ilan Moreno, chozrim be’tshuva who emigrated from North Africa. His father was born in Morocco and his mother in Tunisia. When he was one year old, his family immigrated to Israel.
